 ====== Getrag F23 ====== ====== Getrag F23 ======
 +
 +===== Overview =====
 +
 +The F23 is considered to be the successor to the Getrag 282 and 284. It is another 5 speed transmission from Getrag that was available in a few FWD GM delta platform cars.
 +
 +Similar to the F40, this is a 3-axis design which differentiates it pretty heavily from the 282 and 284.\\
 +This transmission is basically the successor to the Getrag 282 and it is very strong like it.
 +
 +The standard gear ratios that you will find out there though make this swap less tempting since most are going to be around a 3.94 final drive ratio since the cars these came in were 4 cylinder engines.

 +
 +===== Strength =====
 +
 +It is known to be quite strong based on a few posts across many forums, but evidence is a bit hard to find. It is rated for 170 ft-lb of torque, but like most Getrag transmissions it has been known to handle significantly more than this. Some have even claimed it is stronger than the F40 transmission.
 +
 +===== How to Make it Work =====
 +
 +You will want to start with the F23 that is made for the 00-02 Cavaliers and Sunfires with the 2.2 non-dohc engine because it's the only F23 that has the correct bellhousing to match the 3800.
 +
 +This transmission is the successor to the Getrag 282 and it happens to need the same clutch modifications that the 282 swaps use. So you can use a spec clutch made for this transmission or use a clutch and flywheel combo made for the 282 swap.
 +
 +These swaps involve a machined flywheel though if you are going to try to figure it out on your own.
 +
 +There is a facebook group dedicated to talking about how to make this swap work in a w-body. At a minimum you will need special axles, and a driver side transmission mount that would work for the swap.
